London based rapper Amy True brings together smooth, lights-low soul and R&B, clashing with placard-waving hip-hop. The lion-hearted emcee has long worked to the credo of “creating freely to provoke positive change and expression”. This is obvious from her work with the People’s Army Movement, and collaborations with likeminded peers Akala, Benjamin Zephaniah and Lowkey. Laying claim to the title of the UK’s best female rapper in a scene where staying true is a coveted commandment, her latest album ‘Eleven’ is the voice of someone who won’t go quietly, and a vocalist who prides herself on live performance.
Later, enjoy the DJ skills of El Diablo and Queenie.
