Children, Be Bright and Beautiful! Education in Crofton Park 1870-1947. This talk will look at the history of schools and education in Crofton Park. Find out about our local schools, including the oldest, which is currently celebrating its 150th anniversary. We’ll look at the fight to bring in elementary education for all children, including the part played by Benjamin Waugh, who went on to found the NSPCC. Local Dame schools and church schools also feature, and we end with the impact of the London School Plan, which improved standards and increased opportunities in secondary education.
