Invasion of the Jellyfish
Free
Venue: Lewisham ArtHouse
Time: midday – 6pm (everyday)
Angela McMahon creates a physical immersive installation with suspended and floor standing sculptures of fantastical, strange and bizarre sea creatures made from collected and reclaimed materials. Movement and lighting bring the sculptures to life. The artist draws on scientific research and highlights environmental issues that affect the oceans. She imagines the undersea world where pollution from sewage, agricultural runoff and industrial effluent combine with ocean warming caused by climate change and create the ideal conditions for jellyfish to thrive whilst other species die out. The installation provides an insight into how human activity impacts the delicate balance of ocean ecosystems.
