David Jones was both a painter and one of the first-generation British modernist poets. His work appears at the Tate Gallery. You can also see a slideshow of his paintings on the BBC Your Paintings website.
Jones was born in 1895 in Arabin Road and later lived in Howson Road, Brockley. Many of his experiences were formed by serving on the Western Front during the First World War.
At In search of David Jones, Artist, Soldier, Poet, film-maker Derek Shiel introduces his film about Jones’s early years. This fascinating free event is hosted by The Brockley Society.
