Strange and Spooky Tales

Join us on Wednesday 29 October for a spooky festival fundraising evening
with spellbinding local writers.
As many clever publications will inform you this month, the tradition of Halloween began life as Samhain, a Celtic marker of the transition between the end of summer and the first blasts of winter. While Brockleyβs link to this 2,000-year-old seasonal marker are, at best, tenuous, we are certainly blessed with some fantastic writers who are more than adept at conjuring up gloomy seasonal tales set in locations familiar to us all and that invoke an eerie atmosphere.
Thanks to the creepy imaginings of these self-same writers, Brockley Max extends a beckoning finger and invites you to join us for a convivial evening of Strange and Spooky Tales at The Honor Oakβs secret attic lair on Wednesday 29 October. Grab a nerve-settling drink from 7pm and pull up a chair by 7.30pm for an evening of unsettling stories and frightful yarns.
Strange and Spooky Tales is a fundraising event β the first in a series over the coming months β that will help Brockley Max put on a magnificent 25th anniversary festival when it returns in 2026!
Spooky storytellers include entertaining host Ian Richardson, Neil Lawrence, Tutku Barbaros, Jane McCaughlin and Bartle Sawbridge Further names to be announced!
Brockley Max runs for nine days over late May and early June each year and spans music, art, exhibitions, theatre, dance, craft and more! Run by non-profit CIC Max Media Arts, Brockley Max has been putting on and promoting community arts event across Brockley, Ladywell, Crofton Park and Honor Oak since 2021, championing local venues and businesses as an essential part of its ethos. Most of all, itβs a lot of fun! Come!
