Foxborough Gardens Murals – Open Day

Event Details

The Foxborough Gardens flats are home to two outstanding murals created in the 1950’s by William Mitchell – a leading sculptor of the 20th Century.  Born in Forest Hill, Mitchell went on to acquire an international reputation. The Murals date from the time Mitchell worked for the London County Council who built the Foxborough Gardens Estate. This was a time when progressive councils played a key role in building public housing of the highest quality. Now, more than 60 years later, the Murals are in need of some repair.  The Tenants and Residents Association are launching a campaign to publicise the murals more widely and to raise funds for their restoration. Join us to see the murals for yourselves, find out more about them and join our campaign.  We will be at the entrance to one or both of the blocks of flats.
